Two Weeks In

Dear Cubby,
So how have you enjoyed your first two weeks in your new home?  I don't know about you but they have been two of the longest weeks of my life!
I can't take my eyes off of you.  You are into everything!  I've started a collection of the neverending  inappropriate objects I remove from your mouth; in fact, I just switched from a small box to a gallon ziplock bag!  I'd venture to say it'll be full by month's end. Sleep has become a series of hour-long naps whenever you take yours, although I will admit you're sleeping a lot better this past week, sometimes even three hours at a time!  If you look back a couple of posts, though, didn't I say you'd turn our lives upside down?  Believe me, you didn't disappoint!
Mostly, though, you've been a barrel of cuddly fun.  You delight in toys that are at least twice as big as you are, and it's about the funniest thing I've ever seen the way you fall all over yourself when your little body can't keep up with your feet.  And when one of those little feet gets stepped on, your dramatics are worthy of an academy award!  You hold it up like Lassie and whimper pathetically until you get all the sympathy you want, then down goes the paw and on goes your playtime.  Happily, you want to do everything Sophie does and that'll go a long way toward your training!  Watching the two of you together, the rough-&-tumble makes me laugh!  And just like a little boy, you're sure not afraid to get dirty.
You're not too hot on getting a bath, getting brushed, or walking on leash but you'll surely get used to that as you'll be doing that often for the rest of your life.
Not having raised a puppy in 8-1/2 years, I forgot how much work it involves!  Thankfully, Daddy has made many improvements around the house and yard to help keep you safe, and continues to do so as things pop up as we go along.  Most of all, he has kept my attitude in check and keeps reminding me, "He's a puppy.  He's just a baby.  He has to learn."

Cubby, you can't possibly comprehend how exhausting raising a puppy is; yet, when I hold you in my arms and you lick my face, and I run my fingers through your fluffy puppy coat, I can't help looking a year, even two years, into your future and seeing such potential.  You're destined for magnificence, and it's up to me to bring you to it.  Such responsibility!
I'll try and write more later, but you know keeping up with you doesn't allow me much blogging time.  I'll do my best.

  1. I could have written Cubby’s piece about Duffy. Exhausting, exhilarating, wonderful trouble-every-minute!
