First Two Flights
Dear Cubby,
It was one exhausting day! To prepare you for your upcoming long-haul journey, I wanted to introduce you to flying with a short 45-minute hop up to Las Vegas and back. It might have been a better idea to do a turn-around instead of having a four-hour layover, but "live and learn."
You were a little unsure of yourself going through security. You went through the detector first, then turned around and came back, and repeated same three times! So we ended up with me going first and you recalling you from a stand-stay and it worked out much better.
You were a little startled by the airplane engine roars but planting yourself on my feet for the whole trip was a great comfort to you. Come to think of it, it was for me too.
I'm glad I took little videos of the take-offs and landings, and perhaps I should have during the light rail/tram type ride from one terminal to the other. That was boring and uneventful, but it was your first and I didn't get a picture of it. Upon landing in Vegas, I took you out to the animal relief area right away and got that over with. Then we went into the terminal and sat a little out of the way so you could put some food in your tummy and then take a nap. Then we were out walking again.
The one place you had trouble with was the glass elevator where you could freely see out. You didn't like that; it really freaked you out. But when you saw I didn't get freaked, you were better. Not perfect, but better.
By the time we came close to the end of the layover, we were both wiped out, not to mention broiling. It was hot in there! But we made it, and you were much more comfortable with the airplane and its noises the second time around.
We got in about 6:30 p.m. and, after picking up Popo's take-away, we got you home and enjoyed your gleeful running all over the yard, particularly with a tennis ball in your mouth. I think we're going to do just fine on future flights. I can almost guarantee you won't have nearly as many flights as Sophie racked up, but it's so good to know you'll be there when I need you and happily so.
