Scrubby Cubby

Dear Cubby,
Thursday was a tough day for me, turning you over to the dermatologist's staff all day to be sedated, shaved, and allergy-tested.  We just couldn't keep going with the trial-and-error, theorizing, and guessing.  After your hot spots, constant muzzle scrubbing, and worsening allergies, we had to get this done.  Waiting any longer was only risking further suffering and more hot spots.
You happily trotted off with the tech at about 9am and the staff said you were perfectly comfortable hanging out in one of their crates until time for the procedure.  I was pretty impressed with the staff ... they phoned right before you were sedated to let us know they were starting, and called again right afterward to let us know you were doing well.
We got there at three to pick you up but we had to meet with the doctor before we could take you home, so she could go over all the findings and treatment plans with us.
We knew, of course, you'd have to have allergy shots so that was no surprise, but some of the offending allergens were.  Wool!  That's weird because there's no wool around the house, but that's what you reacted to most.  Desert Brome, Johnson grass, Bermuda grass, and rye grass were a few more.  We're just so thankful you only significantly reacted to a few things instead of everything on the list as we had feared.  Sure wish it hadn't been Bermuda grass, though; it's nigh impossible to kill that stuff.
So now we wait for your serum to get made up and then we'll start you on your desensitization.  How I'm praying that'll dry up your itchy-scrubby nose and make you feel so much more comfy.  It's supposed to significantly reduce the risk of any more hot spots too so, if for nothing else, it'll be well worth it.
I really went crazy all day without you, Cubby.  We learned that one of us has terrible separation anxiety ... and it isn't you!
Glad to have you back by my side, sweetie.  I love you!!

  1. So sorry to hear of all the worry and sorrow. Glad to hear that they will be able to help him. I had allergy testing but had bad reactions to the shots, so I avoid. If he is allergic to wool, be careful to the kind of lotion that you have on your hands, and others who pet him. Many lotions have lanolin in them which is from sheep too. Many carpets have wool also. Because it being Arizona not many men wear suits, but I know you travel and they make up a large portion of suits. I have learned from experience. Watch for lamb in his treats and food too. Will keep praying for you all. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
